It is evident that our own thought life greatly impacts the life we lead (and the things that happen to us).
Some have moved their families to a “safe town” to escape danger for their children, only to be greeted by calamity, while others stay in the “dangerous” location and raise their children unscathed.
Some have all the tools to be wealthy… education, backing, and contacts… yet lose over and over. Others start with little, and gain much.
The medical profession confirms that our thought life has a tremendous impact on our physical health. There are those who die who are not “sick enough” to die. There are those for whom there is no cure who recover fully.
Why do bad things happen to you?
Your thoughts determine the abundance of your heart, and the abundance of your heart determines your life experience.
And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to (what) you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you… – Mark 4:24
I once read of a young woman who had been sexually abused and raped… more than once. She determined she would gain weight to be less attractive, and then moved to the mission field where she could escape her surroundings. There, on the mission field, she ended up being raped by one of the other missionaries.
There is a truth in life that a change of location will not necessarily change your life, because you take YOU wherever you go. The key is to change YOU. The change in location (or job, or marriage partner, etc.) is an external change and does not change the source of the “fountain of life” on the inside of you. That is not to say that a change in location can’t be a help to the change needed on the inside… but it is not the solution by itself.
