“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater [works] than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” – Jesus, in John 14:12
It Floats
Many years ago someone realized that wood floats in water. From that realization came the ability to make boats. Larger and larger boats were made… from wood… because wood floats.
It Sinks
People also realized that iron doesn’t float. So boats were made of wood… because wood floats, and iron sinks.
It’s a Law
“Wood floats and iron sinks” is a rudimentary understanding of the Law of Floatation. This understanding allowed men to achieve results… but because of the rudimentary level of their understanding, they were limited to only what they could achieve with wood.
Once people began putting more thought and study into “how” floatation works, they began to realize that iron will float, too… It’s just a matter of displacement.
Armed with that knowledge, man has built increasingly larger ocean-going vessels that carry unbelievable amounts of cargo. All this was once thought impossible, based on man’s limited understanding of the Law of Floatation.
The ability to float huge iron ships was always available. The Law of Floatation did not change… it’s the same as it has always been.
What changed?
Man’s understanding increased. With that increase came an increased ability to produce results.
God says He is able to do more than anything you’ve ever thought. Yet we seem so limited in our results.
God’s not going to change the universal laws that govern the universe. But we can increase in our knowledge and understanding of those laws to produce greater results.
Like man’s understanding of the Law of Floatation, the more basic (or rudimentary) our understanding of God’s universal principles, the more limited our results will be.
But, the more thought and study we give to God’s governing principles… the more understanding we gain… the greater (and more consistent) our results will be.
And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to (what) you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you… – Mark 4:24
“Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [Therefore] get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” – Proberbs 4:7
